Right candidate

Patients with age-related laxity of skin with volume loss and massive weight loss patients with loose hanging skin causing functional disability and difficulty wearing a specific type of clothes are benefited from an arm lift.

Type of anasthesia - Preferred under general anaesthesia.

Procedure

Brachioplasty can be performed with or without liposuction. The skin fold is marked on the inner aspect of the arm from the armpit to elbow depending on the extent of laxity. The incision is given inside the marked line. Excess skin is excised and closed in layers. The incision line usually comes on the inner side of the arm or posterior hand depending on patient preference.

After your surgery

Postoperative care: Patient is made to wear compression garments for an extended period. Length of stay in hospital is 1-2 days depending on recovery. Some amount of swelling and bruising is expected along with numbness, which improves with time. The patient is advised to avoid heavy strenuous exercises or weight lifting during the first three weeks of healing, followed by gradual weight lifting.

Results

The patient feels comfortable after removal of loose hanging skin, which improves the function. The scar molds over six months to one year, depending on how the patient heals.
