Hair transplant is a scientific technique through which individual hair follicles are implanted from a fertile part of the body or scalp to the bald site. Generally, the productive part from which hairs are picked is referred to as the donor site, and the bald region is referred to as the recipient site.
Hair transplantation is entirely safe and highly fruitful. Modern transplant techniques give a completely natural look of the hair and have similar longevity.
Types of Techniques
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
In this technique, hair punches (manual, motorized, suction linked, etc.) are used to harvest hair follicles from the donor area. Subsequently, they have transplanted into the recipient bald areas.
Prime Advantages of Follicular Unit Extraction :
- Faster Recovery
- Less Painful
- No side-effects or reactions.
- Natural-looking hair
- Good Hair Density
Limitation:The only limiting factor with FUE technique is that more than 2000 -2500 grafts cannot be done in a single session. This can be offset by sessions done in continuity for more days if more grafts have to be implanted
Direct Hair Transplant (DHT)
Virtually the same procedure as used in FUE for harvest action of hair follicles. The only difference is that in this technique the hair follicles are immediately implanted after being harvested, so the storage time of harvested follicles in absent and the follicles are exposed minimally to the outside environment resulting in better uptake of grafts.
Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)
In Strip or FUT method, a complete strip of healthy hair from the back of the head is surgically removed and used for the treatment of baldness. The removed scalp is carefully stitched to close the space in layers with a unique technique called as trichophytic closure, and thus there is no wound, and ultimately only a very inconspicuous line remains (through which hairs sprout), which would even be hard to find after a few months.
Using the strip of the healthy hair scalp, the expert hair surgeons prepare grafts under microscopic precision usually in batches of one to three hair
Strip method is the most widely used method across the globe by trained plastic surgeons. A recent modification of the technique involves Micro follicular FUT in which the hair follicle separation is done under microscopes so that good packing of hair in the recipient area can be done to give a denser and natural look. With this innovative technique, large areas of the scalp are amenable for transplantation (Mega session)
After your surgery
Postoperative care: 3-5th postoperative day first Head wash is performed, and instructions on further washing of hair and other precautions are given.
In the case of the FUT method- stitch removal is generally done on postoperative day 10.
the patient is advised to follow up on a monthly interval to see the progress
Usually, all the transplanted hair will fall in 1-1 1/2 month, and this is called SHOCK HAIR LOSS, and then will start growing from the roots. One starts seeing small offshoots in about three months, which further grow at the same rate as normal hair. It takes about a year to see the final result.
